Sundby says no to – VG

VAL DI FIEMME (VG) Martin Johnsrud Sundby has earned around one million in prize money at the Tour de Ski. But has no plans to step up its commercial activities.

Asked by VG about what is the future plans for “Martin Johnsrud Sundby AS” responds cross country king:

– Hehe. There are no “Skirkus TV», at least. It does not, says 31-year-old, referring to Petter Northug own TV channel.

Does not feel big enough to have manager

Ever since Bjorn Daehlie and Vegard Ulvang commercialized cross-country skiing in the 1990s and built up large fortunes in the wake of his career, many of the largest Norwegian skiers made their million shop. Now scoops Petter Northug and Therese Johaug big money on their business.

But the most supreme skier so far in 2015/16 has no plans to use his name to sell different products.

– For now I’m happy to perform so well in winter sports that I can spend a few years to figure out what to do for his career, says 31-year-old.

He has no plans to recruit a manager – so Northug in Are Sørum Langås and Johaug has Jørn Ernst – to maximize the economic potential of their brand.

– So great I am not, you know. I manage to take care of this yourself. So I get the help of a secretary through his wife, tells Røa-runner.

The wife came on surprise visit

The Lady is the wife Marieke – who traveled to Val di Fiemme in secretly. After climbing up the monster hill to his third straight Tour de Ski title got Sundby a pleasant surprise when he saw his wife Marieke, sister and father.

– I had no idea. I plunged into the snow and thought I had three minutes to cool it before the others arrived in goal. I was completely finished. I had gone all I could. Then I heard a voice I knew well, well well. Then I thought “damn, now you are tired, Sundby – for now you begin to hear the call.” But then I looked up and saw that it was his wife. It was an insane surprise. They ripped me, simply. She should be on city trip with some girlfriends and Mark should be with Mom. But it was very nice, says Sundby.

– We decided not until Friday night that we should go. I would not disturb him with it. So I hoped that there would be an added bonus that we were here, says Marieke Hegge Country VG.

She seems obviously it was great to experience the man’s third straight Tour de Ski triumph up close.

– I have the desire to be as good as possible on skis. That’s what I think. That’s what I spend time and effort. The worst thing is that I think that I have so insanely much to go on yet. I have to think about it before I can start thinking about all the possible things like that, he says to VG.

“machine” is famished to become a better skier. Poor competitors, we say.

– It’s like I say, I feel I have a lot going on. There are quite a lot during this tour here which annoys me. Where I feel “damn, why did I not there.” It is these thoughts I go with the evening.
