Start is no easy club to get to as football coach – Fædrelandsvennen

Start coach Mjelde signaling that his time in the Start is over. It has created reactions in the south.

Tuesday writes Fædrelandsvenen that this will probably be the last season with Mons Ivar Mjelde as Start-chief. The protagonist himself is critical to the time of posting.

– I know Fædrelandsvennen and how they are doing, so it I care little about. For me it is natural to look for new jobs after almost four years. Meanwhile, the economic situation in the team strained. But the timing of the posting is strange.

Timing me here, timing me there

These words come from the Start coach Mons Ivar Mjelde, few hours before the opening series against Lillestrøm at Åråsen.

I’ll witness tonight serieåpning at Åråsen. At this writing, I’m sitting in a hotel in Oslo and heats up to what will happen tonight. Mons Ivar Mjelde and the rest of Start squad residing at the same hotel.

On the way to breakfast, I met Mjelde and the rest of Start-made, which also has its say and about the timing of Fædrelandsvennens stories about this being his last year as Start exercising.

For a supporter is rarely good news that a coach goes out and casts doubt on their future at the club. Four years is however quite long in a club Start.

Challenges in a row

A club, without overdoing have had a handful of challenges in recent years, also in front of the season.

Powerful economic cuts and player sales are two of many moves made to get the accounts as close to balance as possible. Before Mons Ivar Mjelde came, tried the club out all 15 coaches on the last 16 years. In other words, there is little reminiscent of continuity and long-term perspective.

What has Mjelde got at the time he has been in Kristiansand?

In the aforementioned interview with Fædrelandsvennen he admits that he has not got what he wanted when he came to the club. 2012 he looks dog back on with joy, this was the year when the club was relatively superior in 1st division and uprooted again to Norway’s top division.

As a supporter I have to agree in his own assessment. 2012 season is the best he has done with the Start, in close competition with last year’s harvest season, where the club saved renewed contract after a rather dismal spring.

Start is no easy club to get to as football coach, especially in recent years. This has also Mjelde have experienced.

Controversial

He has been hard hit, both in the media and among fans for some tactical choices he has made in advance of and during the games. Interest personally I’m happy for each year Start manages to salvage contract in Tippeligaen.

Southern need to have a representative in the top division in Norway, and that is what we must fight for. Each year. Every season. Once it is in place administrative and club’s financial situation becomes more stable, we can begin to see higher up on the table. Mjelde has ridden many storms, the team got also through last season with a new contract in his pocket.

Tonight begins a new season and new points shall be fought for.

During my previous visits at Åråsen was the former Lillestrom goalkeeper Heinz Müller and Geir Ludvig Fevang who stole the headlines after a nasty collision. It was not a good memory to take with them. Start is not a club with good memories from Arasen, an arena we have not won on since 1993.

We cross it crossed to ensure that the statistics broken tonight.

Mjelde at the helm. Thanx so long.
