Coop-Petter gets going for Norway – Dagbladet.no

AGREEMENT that ensures Petter Northug will compete for Norway for the winter, is in principle ready. This means that Petters private sponsor Coop expanding sports betting his to include all children -and width work in Ski Federation; While connected in turn disregards the board resolution last spring that every runner is sporty eligible for national team just have to join there.

The release Petter. Now he can continue his private initiative that Coop-runner until he is taken out to various international duty in season. When replacing him from Coop cloth to normal national team gear, with the same duties and rights as any representation runner. In addition, he will be cross-country’s ambassador in FIS total child labor.

To resolve this conflict for the benefit of the entire sport.

THIS solution had not come without FIS willingness to stand on principle that every national runner must contribute to sport’s public finances. In this way has a cumbersome decision by the board to force the best runners in the national team, in practice been a success.

There have initially forced Coop to pay the sport around 3 million per. year for the food giant to achieve maximum advertising proceeds of Petter Northug, but more importantly it is to set the example:

•• Henceforth there is no private sponsors who can walk away with national team stars for their own use without paying community for it.

In the long term such as essential for all Norwegian sports. It clarifies the sport’s ownership over any national team.

ironic enough has some of the most treacherous in this case just been the internal tug of war in the skiing community about freely to get take out the best athletes to the national team. It is no secret that the way has cost cross-country leaders pretty much true Petter with exclusion from the Olympics, World Cup -and World. They have all the time wanted to have with Northug, but has chosen to remain loyal to skistyrets need to set an example.

So it is all the better to see that tactic paid off.

SAME TIME is this solution which is also outlined in today’s VG, optimal for Petter himself. He has also been loyal to Coop their thinking to expose him in long runs coming winter, while he probably much rather would have bet on the World Cup.

There are at least one good reason it:

•• Petter Northug has never won the Tour de Ski.

For a runner who has based much of the adventurous track their progress on constantly breaking barriers, this is a large, black hole on your CV. Measured championship is Petter history’s most complete cross country skier. With a range from sprint to 5 mil has no won several different exercises than him.

Then we have also overcome the unique challenges that come with the Tour de Ski.

HOW means this solution that Petter in practice compete for Norway in the first World Cup competitions as part of the preparation for the Tour de Ski.

Just it’s enough already underway. In recent weeks, Petter delivered such good performance in circuit races in athletics that it reflects a seasonal program with emphasis on improving the oxygen uptake. To be built a little platform to master the special Tour de Ski finish up the monster hill in Val di Fiemme.

Now that the Norwegian Ski Federation and Coop has opened the door for investment in national team, it’s not going to stand on Petters willingness to deliver.

FOOTNOTE: Cross-country sponsor SPAR could have refused Ski Federation taking into Coop sponsoring the children -and width work. Norway group that owns this food chain and is the country’s biggest player in the grocery sector, has chosen a different strategy. They have opened for a collaboration in order to avoid conflict around popular Petter Northug, and has so far possibly been paid for its generosity. Over the past year increased Norway Group’s market share by 0.6% while Coop similarly much down.
