Blatter convenes emergency meeting – Aftenposten

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has called a crisis meeting with the six football federations just hours before the FIFA Congress opens.

ZURICH / OSLO (Aftenposten): Theme will be Wednesday’s arrests and the ongoing investigation, according to the German news agency DPA.

The meeting will take place in Zurich. Besides Wednesday’s press conference gets emergency meeting the first official seized FIFA doing in connection with Wednesday’s action.

Aftenposten is in place in Zurich, where FIFA President Joseph Blatter earlier today dropped a planned press conference.

The Swiss should actually made a speech at FIFA medical conference, but just before the conference started, it was announced that the president did not show up anyway.

– The president must do what he can to deal with the situation. It’s probably more important than coming to us, said Jiri Dvorak, Chairman of FIFA’s medical department, at a press conference Thursday, according to Sky News.

Hallén: – Will avoid confrontation

was a controlled chaos that reigned on Kamerha Grand Hotel in Zurich on Thursday morning.

A large international press corps were in place at the site where the European delegates housed in connection with the FIFA Congress in the city.

The agenda is naturally what is the way forward for international football after nine of the football family leaders were arrested and charged Wednesday in an extensive corruption.

Norwegian football president Yngve Hallén, had to endure a lot of criticism Wednesday when he held that under certain circumstances could be relevant for Norway to vote for Sepp Blatter during Friday’s presidential election.

– We have always said that we stand on line to UEFA (European football), but we are very concerned that there should be such a confrontation (with unions from other parts of the world, ed note) that allows us not move on, says Hallén when Aftenposten he meets in the Swiss bye Thursday morning.

The movement he talks about is adding the best possible conditions for the reform process that all now agree that FIFA needs.

Tries to obtain a broad consensus

UEFA board said on Wednesday that they want the presidential election (in which 79-year-old and controversial Sepp Blatter wants to be re-elected to his fifth term) exposed and held within six months.

This proposal like Hallén.

– I feel that it’s an effort just to drive a hard line, but take out some distance and say that when this first happened, the situation is so bewildering, says Hallén.

The European leaders will meet at half past twelve.

It is presently unclear whether the board of UEFA will bring their member countries to get presidential postponed.

Until then it is hectic meetings between leaders from all six regional confederations of FIFA and representatives of the central management of FIFA.

The goal is to find a solution that the majority can ask themselves behind.

– They see whether it is possible to arrive at something that everyone can agree on. As I’ve said before, it’s not an option that Europe will be left alone, it will be very difficult, says Hallén.

Putin supports Blatter

FIFA Congress is in every way a game on high political level.

Not long before European leaders will gather in Zurich, went Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that he stands behind FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

– This is yet another attempt by the US to exert their power over other states, said Putin about the arrests Wednesday morning.

It may therefore be a major challenge for UEFA to be able to collect all its member countries in a common front against Blatter.

This was also one of the topics of conversation between delegates and journalists in the reception hall of the UEFA hotel in Zurich.

Believe arrests weakens Blatter credibility

UEFA director Karen Espelund does not particularly convinced that the European countries should be able to go for a solution that involves Sepp Blatter continues as president.

– The question the what such a solution would entail, but Europe has been relatively clear that you want a change at the top of FIFA, and it completely independent of this matter. This case strengthens the no credibility or legitimacy that this president can lead this further. It would surprise me if this really does not change the case

– They must the face the fact that this has been a dramatic day of FIFA. The man has been in the lead since the early 80s (Secretary General from 1981 to 1998 and president since 1998) and have a responsibility as system manager and quality assurance. It is too early to say how it will be assessed by others, she told Aftenposten Wednesday.
