Blatter hailed FIFA’s vice president arrested a month ago – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): Very early on Wednesday morning took action Swiss police against six FIFA-tops, commissioned by the US Justice Department. Vice president of the world’s most powerful sports organization, Jeffrey Webb (50), is among those arrested. In total 14 members of FIFA accused of corruption for over $ 100 million from the beginning of the 1990s until today.

It happens only a month after the controversial FIFA president Sepp Blatter (79) launched Webb as his own successor at a congress in the Bahamas, where Webb was re-elected as CONCACAF head.

– He is the head of CONCACAF, he is already a leader in FIFA and he has a big role (as vice president and chairman of the anti-racism and -diskrimnineringskomitéen). He will also have an even greater role over the next four years, said Blatter Jamaica Observer.



– My brother

Webb comes from Cayman Eyes in the Caribbean Sea and is a trained lawyer. He took over as CONCACAF president for scandal chased Jack Warner in 2012.

The latter is also among the six men Swiss police arrested this morning.

– He (Webb) positioning itself as a future leader of FIFA – and he is a winner, so let’s see how far he comes, said Blatter on 18 April.

In the same speech told Blatter that he looks at Webb as a brother.

– He took over and changed CONCACAF. Today he received confirmation that (re-elected) president, and it is a great success for Jeffrey Webb – my colleague, my friend, my brother.

– I look forward to working with him in four years, said Blatter.



Controversial

Suspicions of corruption have also pursued Blatter duties as FIFA president since he was elected for the first time in 1998, when it was claimed that Blatter had bought votes in the fight against Swedish Lennart Johansson.

Blatter is now on the home stretch in its fifth and final choice as FIFA president . Friday it is determined which of he and Prince Ali bin al-Hussein who will lead the organization the next four years.

Micahel van Praag and Luis Figo also posed as presidential candidates, but both have resigned. Figo went afterwards to a frontal attack on Blatter, and said he had no faith that it would be carrying out a fair election on 29 May.

• FIFA has announced that they will hold a press conference at 11.00 Norwegian time.
