Johaug and Weng clash of prestige duel up feared rise – Aftenposten

Cross-country skiing stars will both run the dreaded Besserud leg of Holmenkollen relay.

Therese Johaug (26) manages to capture second place in overall World Cup this season, roughly 50 points ahead of teammate Heidi Weng (23).

After a long season with duels meet cross-country duo for another tussle Saturday.

When setting both in elite class for women in Holmenkollen relay in Oslo.

Even more interesting is styrkeprøven that Weng and Johaug have chosen to run the same stage for their respective teams. There is also talk of the most famous and prestigious leg of the all: Lap number 7, Besserud-leg.

This is a steep force sample of 1.79 km and are often given to team member who best masters uphill.

Therese Johaug has for several years been the best in monster hill in the Tour de Ski, while Heidi Weng has merits in uphill race with sneakers, and was partly champion in the discipline in 2014.

– Heidi is very tough

Head of Johaug layer FIK Ren-Eng, Randi Thorshaug, are confident that cross-profile will assert itself up Besserud.

– She’s been with for years and had the best leg several times. She is strong and there is a lot of energy in the chick. She likes uphills, says Thorshaug Aftenposten.

She also holds a button on Johaug in the duel against Weng.

– It gets pretty smoothly. It will be interesting, but we have to bet that Therese is the best.

Anne Farseth, Sports Director Heidi Weng layer BUL, has a different view prior to the profiles running duel.

– Heidi takes her. Therese is very good, but I think Heidi is very tough, says Farseth.



NRK Post: – Johaug the best climber

NRK commentator Jann Post follows Johaug and Weng closely through cross country season. Post is also a racing enthusiast and has participated in several marathons.

He believes the duo is regularly in distances Besserud-stage.

– I think Johaug is the best climber of the two. It goes steeply uphill is to her advantage. But Weng is a bit faster, which is advantageous in such a short distance. I predict that it can be reasonably smoothly, says Post, before adding:

– None of them have enough desire to end up with the worst lap time. They will probably check each other’s times quickly.

Kristoffersen and Ek Hagen also sets

The opportunity exists for the Johaug and Weng will not be as far apart as they embark on the infamous leg.

Both BUL and FIK Ren-Eng has ambitions fight for a top five / six location.

BUL has however been hit by a series maturing in the days leading up to the start. Heidi Weng buff sister Merete Weng is among those who can not quiet.

Merete Weng was scheduled to run the 6th stage. The stage is now in place to Martine Ek Hagen, also she is a national runner in cross country.

Weng-sisters’ mother May Bente shall otherwise run the second leg for BUL.

Weng and Johaug also get company of a third cross country profile up Besserud. Marthe Kristoffersen will run stage for Steinkjer FIK.

Elite class for women in Holmenkollen relay starts at 14:00 Saturday. A total of around 50,000 athletes in action in the streets of Oslo Saturday.
