Chelsea broke Liverpool’s hopes – Dagsavisen

Liverpool still had a little hope to end the top four in the Premier League. That hope was shattered when champions Chelsea kept made the 1-1 Sunday.

London team made several changes to the team and pretended including youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek get the field . But it was a veteran who starred early. Captain John Terry was left strangely alone in a corner and heads checked into 1-0 after five minutes.

Just before was Chelsea strategist Cesc Fàbregas luck escaped with a yellow card when he put studs in Raheem Sterling.

For Liverpool were only three points well enough and as for the hosts was the captain who took responsibility. Steven Gerrard’s equalizer just before the break than Terry’s leading goal. Given a free kick got Gerrard left unmarked at the back post and he gets easily into the 1-1.

Other Half was the chance impoverished battle. Liverpool had few options to choose from aggressively and thrown into youngsters Jerome Sinclair and Jordon Ibe at the end. Neither they managed to make a difference.

Ten minutes from time went Gerrard off the field in his last meeting with Chelsea. The captain was clapped off the pitch by the home fans and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Another popular player among fans Sunday Diego Costa, who tried to watch the game from a regular grandstand seat. All the attention the guards had to escort him to the VIP stand five minutes before the break.

With 1-1 Liverpool have still a theoretical chance to reach the Champions League. But with six points fewer and far inferior goal difference than Manchester United it is utopia to believe that his team could recoup its lead in the last two rounds. (© NTB)
